When you travel to a new country and use Google search, you are immediately presented with a custom search featured in the language of that particular country. I have been finding this a bit irritating for a while, so I decided to look for the work around to make the default language as English permanently rather than change it every time with “View Google.com in English”

So here are the steps:

1. Go to Wrench > Options > Basics > Search > Manage

2. Select Add (which can be seen towards the bottom of the page where you add other custom search engines)

3. For “Name” and “Keyword,” type the letter “GOOGLE NEW”

4. For “URL,” enter http://www.google.com/search?q=%s

5. Click O.K.

6. Look through the list for ‘GOOGLE NEW’ and click on it to “Make default”

7. Click “Close”

There! you’re done. Test it by heading over to www.google.com or search instantly from the address bar if you are using Google Chrome.
