Art Magic – Google does it again!

Ever wished to travel around the world and visit the famed museums in art, history, war and so on? Well, I have. And I always loved art.

Well, to add to my fortunes, I am in London at the moment and I got the chance to visit the National Art Gallery at Trafalgar Square. I managed to pass just 6 rooms in two and a half hours and am planning to return there for a ‘continued session’ when I get the chance. To put it in a better way, there are 60 rooms  with some 20 odd paintings or sculptures per room and if you are an art ogler like me, believe me, you did spend 15 minutes (or more) per painting, looking at every detail, color combination and swish of the awesome brush strokes. I did. Again! 😀 And you would need a MONTH to go through the entire collection. And thats just the National Art Gallery. Gosh!

Anyways, coming to the point, there are museums around the world that we want to see. And for the less fortunate who haven’t ‘yet’ got the chance to travel to these awesome places, Google, again, comes to the rescue.

With their newly launched Art Project, Google guides you with a virtual tour through the famous galleries of Van Gogh, Da Vinci, Picasso and all those guys, at museums like National Art Gallery in London, Freer Gallery of Art-  Washington, Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid and  Amsterdam and Berlin and Moscow and and and.. goes on (and going on). 😛

You are in the gallery! 😀

All of you must have used Google Maps with Street view right? Well, the same technique is used here. You navigate around the interiors of the galleries using the same double click to ‘walk’ and scroll to zoom into the paintings. And btw, each painting would have a ‘plus’ zoom button which allows you the chance to view the painting in detail.

You see the 'plus' sign on the left frame border of the painting? Click that, and you will be able to see the painting in high resolution. The Virgin and the Child.

All in all, this idea is brilliant from Google as usual. Now I can see where all I have to go (in the specific museum), that I don’t get lost like that last time I did. 😀

Click here for the Google Art Project. But, I guess this will be just something to satisfy the urge… for sometime. 🙂
